The concert was a sell out and as more people arrived seats were made available in the Baptistry at the rear of the church. Part of the appeal was that we were performing the full work with no cuts at all. It was clearly appreciated with a standing ovation at the end of the performance. We are delighted to quote from many of our audience . . .
. . . . . Our visit to St. Saviour's to hear the Messiah was a wonderful way to spent Saturday evening. We thoroughly enjoyed it all. Please give our congratulations to the choir on a most enjoyable performance.
Dame Lorna Muirhead DBE, Patron of Birkenhead Choral Society
"I go to see Messiah whenever I can. Up to tonight, the best performance in my opinion has been at the Liverpool Philharmonic. BCS's performance was on a par with that - easily."
"I admit I was worried at the prospect of all of it being done but I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and, far from being lengthy the time passed really quickly."
"I was delighted by the fact that there were parts I had not heard before, and I've heard it performed a good few times. Bravo for taking on the lot and executing it so wonderfully."
"It's a shame about the fireworks. They distracted the audience for a while but not the performers, thankfully. Tell Nicola 'well done' for keeping going! If they had started 15 minutes earlier it wouldn't have mattered as that was during the interval. Might be as well to check if Oxton Cricket Club are having a Midsummer Night firework display?!!"
"What a joy to have something like this right in my backyard! I'm looking forward to the next one."
Thank you to all our supporters. Hopefully there will be more seats available next time, there being no orchestra!
